Ann Elizabeth Prideaux Hurt was born on May 7, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas to Elizabeth Price Prideaux and Chester C. Prideaux. The early years of her life and many summers were spent on her grandfather’s ranch which she described as 17 miles from nowhere. She transferred as a junior to the Hockaday School in Dallas. Ann went to SMU where she was in the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity. There she met the love of her life and husband of 58 years, George Ellison Hurt, Jr., M.D. (“Happy”) and made many lifelong friends. Ann married Happy after graduating with a BA in Fine Arts and together they raised five children: Catherine Hurt Scheihing, Douglas Richard Hurt (Beth), Carolyn Hurt, George Ellison Hurt III, and Gregory Prideaux Hurt (Marcus). An avid reader, Ann belonged to the No Name Book Club and the Friday Book Club. She was also a member of the Dallas Woman’s Club, Dallas Garden Club, Lakeside Browning Club, Christ the King Altar Society and the Michael Stoner Chapter of the DAR. She was active in the Christ the King School activities and Mother’s Club, and in leadership capacities for the Medical Center Woman’s Club and the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance. Ann spent many enjoyable hours playing bridge with her friends and traveling the world with Happy and their friends. Ann is survived by her 5 children, 7 grandchildren (Alex O), 2 great grandchildren and their wonderful families. She died on July 6, 2024, surrounded by the family she loved. She is predeceased by her husband, Happy, her son-in-law, William Charles Scheihing, Jr, and grandson, Elijah Christian Noel Hurt. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, July 11 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Chapel at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2024, after a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Scottish Rite for Children or Camp Sweeney.
