Ann Runyan Miranda

Ann Miranda (née Runyan), 92, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on July 2, 2026 of natural causes.

Ann was born at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on April 18, 1934, to Ward and Allene Runyan. She graduated as valedictorian from Louisburg High School (1952) and continued on to University of Kansas and received a BS in Nursing (1957).

She moved to Dallas, Texas after school. She worked at Old St. Paul Hospital, Parkland Hospital and Baylor Hospital.

While at St Paul she met Francis who was working summers as an orderly. They started with dates to The Taboo Room on Lomo Alto and performances at Fair Park’s Margo Jones Theater and Bandshell. Ann and Francis were married on July 3, 1959.

Ann spent 25 years at Baylor Hospital as a floor nurse then ICU supervisor. She was lead surgical nurse for Dr. Ben Mitchell, one of the pioneers of coronary artery bypass surgery. She helped create the First CCU unit at BUMC, Baylor University Medical Center, in the late 70’s.

Ann worked as a technical service rep for Medtronic for 20 years.

After retiring from both Baylor and Medtronic, Ann served as office manager for Francis’ dental/orthodontic practice. There she was the inspiration and glue for the staff and Francis.

She was actively involved in both the local and national American Heart Association. She enjoyed teaching and training teachers of CPR.

Ann and Francis shared a love for music. They enjoyed music as patrons of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Jazz at the Museum (DMA) and other local jazz performances.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents Ward Beam Runyan and Bernice Allene Runyan (nee Jenkinson); her brother Robert Beam Runyan; and husband Dr. Francis Miranda Jr. and step daughter Beverly Fawn Miranda.

Ann is survived by her three children; Sam Miranda, William Louis Miranda, and her daughter Sara Ann Miranda, all of Dallas, TX.

She will be laid to rest at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Please leave condolences below.
