Ms. Annette Williams was born Annette Harvey, along with her twin sister, Jeanette, on March 12, 1945 in Meridian, Mississippi to Rollie Harvey, Sr. and Geneva Moore Harvey. Annette was the fourth of eight children born to their union.
Annette lived a life of service rooted in her love of God beginning in her youth as a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. It was there that she was baptized at age 9. She participated in the Young People’s Group, choir, and served as the Secretary to the Dean for state conventions. Annette was educated in the Meridian Public School System and graduated from T. J. Harris High School in 1963. Annette then attended Mississippi Valley State.
It was during her time in college that she met Roland Williams. They married in 1967 and welcomed a child, Rolanda B. Williams, on June 21, 1968. Rolanda, who was well-loved added to Annette’s joy when on March 12, 2002, she gave birth to her granddaughter, Geneva Annette Sherman.
Throughout her life, Annette showed herself to be gifted in the areas of organization and managing projects. Annette put those skills to use as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a church usher, union leader, and family event coordinator. Professionally, Annette began her career with the New York Telephone company and through hard work and diligence worked her way up from Marketing Representative to Senior Consultant and continued to progress until her retirement in 2001 as a Contract Specialist for Avaya Telecommunications. It was at that time Annette left Dallas to become the primary caregiver for her mother in Meridian, MS. That was a job that saw the best of her skills and held a special place in her heart for 16 years.
Annette is survived by her daughter, Rolanda, granddaughter, Geneva, sisters, Jeanette (William), Jacqueline (Willie), Cheryl (Joe), and Yolanda (Kenneth), brothers, Rollie (Marsha), Robert (Carol), and Rodney (Elaine), a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
