Annie Jean Shaw was born on November 7, 1932 to Lonzo Loyd Hurlburt and Jewel Frankie Sharp, two individuals who shaped the wonderful person we gather to honor today. Annie passed away on September 14, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever live on in our hearts. Annie was the third child of Lonzo Loyd Hurlburt and Jewel Frankie Sharp, and she was preceded in death by five siblings. Today, as we gather to honor the life of Annie, we come together to celebrate the remarkable journey of a woman whose presence brought light and love to all who knew her.
Annie's story began on a humble farm, where she learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and faith. As a sharecropper's daughter, she understood the importance of resilience and determination, traits that would shape her character throughout her long and fulfilling life.
Annie's life was enriched by her marriage to James William Shaw, a union that spanned 41 years and was built on a foundation of love, loyalty, and mutual respect. Together, they raised three beautiful children—two daughters; Patricia and Sharrie and a son; John —who were the pride and joy of their lives. Their home was a sanctuary of love and laughter, and memories were made.
Annie's faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both the joys and the challenges she encountered along the way. She found strength in her relationship with God, and her unwavering belief was a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
As a devoted wife and mother, Annie found joy and fulfillment in the role of a homemaker. She took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family, where love and laughter filled the air. Annie's kitchen was a place of magic, where she delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Her homemade wheat rolls were legendary, a testament to her culinary skills and her love for those she held dear.
In addition to her roles as a wife and mother, Annie also opened her heart and her home to care for countless children. Running a home daycare was more than just a job for Annie—it was a calling, a vocation rooted in her deep love for children and her desire to provide them with a safe, nurturing environment. To the children under her care, Annie was Grandma Shaw—a beloved figure who showered them with love, kindness, and affection.
Annie's love knew no bounds, and her impact on the lives of those around her was immeasurable. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Today, as we bid farewell to Annie, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, surrounded by the love of her Heavenly Father. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire us all for generations to come.
Annie leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her three (3) children; Patricia Beal, John Shaw, and Sharrie Sanders; six (6) grandchildren; Wendy Craig, Robert Beal, Cassie Beal, Misty Phillips, Daniel Shaw, and Stormey Finlay; twelve (12) great-grandchildren; Dalton Craig, Dakota Craig, Alec Beal, Ethan Beal, Brooklyn Beal, Bristol Beal, Preston Cammack, Jordan Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips, Slate Phillips, Merigan Shaw, and Saphira; six (6) siblings; Pete Hurlburt, Billy Hurlburt, Junior Hurlburt, Eddie Hurlburt, James Hurlburt, Chunky Eden; and a very large extended family.
