"Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor—by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world."
November 3, 1949 – February 19, 2025
Dallas, Texas - Lorrie Muse invites you to join her on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at their home in Dallas, Texas, for a celebration of the life of my beloved Archie Henry Muse, who passed on February, 19 2025. And in Carthage, NC on April 12, 2025 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the Carthage Community Building “Rock Building” 203 W. Barrett St. Carthage, NC.
Henry was 75 years old upon his passing, born Nov 3, 1949 in Carthage, North Carolina to Archie Braxton Muse and Rachel Foster Muse. Henry and Lorrie started dating while working at E-Systems/Raytheon in Garland TX.
Henry married his partner and love of his life, Lorrie Nugent, after a 19-year courtship. Henry and Lorrie didn’t have children of their own but were called Aunt and Uncle by family and most children they loved in their community.
Henry always wanted to be a teacher but chose a more lucrative position in Physics and Mathematics so he could support family and friends. He found his joy for teaching by mentoring children in Science and Technology, Calligraphy, Literacy and Social Sciences. Henry supported the Garland Academic Decathlon for over 10 years and lead the teams in interview preparation. Henry always said, “children will say the darndest things if they aren’t prepared.”
He had an engaging personality, and always made people laugh; especially when he was telling stories of his childhood and of corporate America woos. His Musings were often diner table discussions. Henry loved to read not only mathematics’ and physics topics; rather he had a well-rounded home library that was often the source for others to pull from. Henry was Henerypedia to many. Henry and Lorrie loved classical music and opera and often attended performances at the Dallas Symphony and Opera. Their first date was a performance by Pavarotti in Ft. Worth in 1992. Henry loved traveling to wine country locations and experiencing wine from the vineyard all the way to the tasting room. Trips to Napa, Sonoma, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria were always planned around wine and ocean views.
Henry attained a BS in Mathematics and a BS in Physics at N.C. State University in 1972, concurrently. He also attended Graduate level Study in Physics at the University of Chicago, 1972-73 and received a MS in Applied Mathematics at N.C. State University 1975.
Henry began his career at Teledyne Brown Engineering, Huntsville, AL 1975-1976 and soon moved to Dallas Texas to work at Texas Instruments, Equipment Group 1976-1979 which finally led him to E-Systems/Raytheon in 1979-2011 where he advanced from individual contributor positions to include the R&D Council, Senior Program Manager and Senior Staff Engineer. He was promoted to Engineering Fellow in 1998 and focused on algorithm design and development of digital image and signal processing, analytical photogrammetry, radiometry and statistical error propagation. Henry worked for E Systems/Raytheon for 32+ years until his retirement in December 2011. Henry supported law enforcement organizations executing analyses of crime scene still frame and video camera imagery on a voluntary basis. Henry is the Co-holder of four patents and was published in several IEEE Journals. Henry was in the final editing stage on a graduate level Physics and Mathematics study guide that Lorrie will be getting published.
Henry is survived his wife Lorrie Nugent Muse, of Dallas TX and all of his fur babies; and his beloved sister Gail Pressley of Carthage, NC, Howard (Sherry) Muse of Whispering Pines, NC and Frankie (Mary) Muse of Carthage, NC. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Archie Braxton Muse and Rachel Foster Muse. Henry survivors include his nieces and nephews Travis Pressley (Julie), Jennifer Wood (Joe), Cheryl Muse, Matthew Muse (Jenny), Melissa Speissegger (Steve).
Henry leaves behind his beloved friend of 46 years Maurice Gyer. Henrys extended family and friends list would require a novel; however, to be loved by this man was not only Lorries pleasure but was by most that met him.
