Arcola Miller Ivey was born June 29, 1927 in Stille, Louisiana. Arcola met and married Lee Roy “Roy” Ivey and their union spanned 74 ½ years. Shortly after their marriage, Roy entered military service where he served on the Pacific front as a Marine during WWII. Arcola became a USO Volunteer, organizing parties and dances at Ft. Polk in Louisiana. Later she would be a part of the family business at the Roy Ivey Grocery Store in Stanley, LA until they moved to Dallas in 1953 to go into business, opening Ivey Lumber Sales in 1956. Together they had a love for travel, snow skiing, square dancing and ballroom dancing. Over her lifetime, Arcola was involved with many organizations. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross as a nursing assistant in the clinic at Ft. Polk, as a school nurse in Garland & Dallas, and at Doctors Hospital in the White Rock Lake area of Dallas. She helped with the Dallas Girls Chorus for many years, as well as the Baylor Auxiliary and was a member of the Eastern Star. Arcola was a long time member of Casa View Baptist Church and remained active until her health and the health of Roy kept them at home where they continued to serve their faith by hosting an in-home Bible study. Arcola, or “Mama Cola” as she was known to her grandchildren and the many children she lovingly cared for, will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 ½ years, Lee Roy Ivey, Sr., her parents, Harold Archie and Evie Mae (Gallion) Miller, her granddaughter Yvette Ivey, sisters, Charlene Danzy and Morine Jackson. She is survived by son, Roy “Bubba” Ivey, Jr. and wife Teresa Ivey; son, Charlie Ivey; daughter, Suzanne Wolverton and her husband Kenneth Wolverton all of the Dallas area; sister, Sue Miller Johnson; brother, Errol Dean Miller and wife Vicki Miller; Grandchildren, Jason & Clara Ivey, Shaunna Adams, Chase & Colette Ivey, Chance & Ashley Ivey, Ryan & Jessica Springer, Kristin & Josh Pierson, Michael & Devin Wolverton; 24 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, one uncle, Julian “Junior” & Judy Gallion and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00pm Friday, March 6 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Saturday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
