Artis “Faye” McCoy was born Artis T. Berry on November 29, 1939 to Francis Johnson and Sam Berry in Mansfield, Louisiana. Faye met Waymon McCoy soon after arriving in Dallas and the two married in 1959. They were blessed with three daughters: Cynthia, Debra, and Bridgette. Faye worked in a school cafeteria and a dry cleaning business before becoming a Domestic Worker, where she became like family to several of her employers over the years. She retired from this work in 2004. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren, cooking, listening to music, spending time with family and friends, and she loved to laugh. Faye was preceded in death by her husband Waymon; her mother Francis Johnson and her father Sam Berry; her brother Hershel Henderson; her sisters Jean Johnson and Myrtis Cooper; and her eldest daughter Cynthia Cato (Judge). She leaves behind: daughters Debra Mack and Bridgette Bennett (Jeff); grandchildren Quincy Mccoy and Alecia Cato (Cynthia); Sheldon McCoy, Tamatrick McCoy, and Bryan Mack (Debra); Kwanzaa Bennett and Jeffrey L. Bennett, II (Bridgette); eight great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Faye’s humor and bright smile will be dearly missed.
