Arverian Vaughn, better known as “Dean” was born on January 30, 1926 to the heritage Johnnie and Ruby (Ross) Carroll in Dallas, Texas. She received her formal education from the Dallas Independent School District through H.S. Thompson Elementary School, and later was graduate of Lincoln High School of Dallas, Texas. Having accepted Christ at an early age, she began her Christian journey as a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She later joined St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.C. Estell, then her journey ended at the New Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.H. Banks, Rev. Gerald Britt, Jr. and Rev. Bruce Fortner. While at New Mt. Moriah, she served in many auxiliaries, including Deaconess, Senior Mission President, Junior Mission, President/Usher Director, Youth Worker and member of the Senior Choir. She was also known for her great ability and creativeness in making signs for each program to announce the occasion for the church. As a very artistic woman, Dean was a dedicated employee of Pinless Diaper Company, later she was a very efficient seamstress for the Nordis Fashion Dress Company. All of Dean’s focus was raising her children and providing love and support to her family as well as the Bexar Street Corridor Community. Her quiet demeanor was loved and cherished by those who she loved at the church and all over the South Dallas Community where she would serve and participate with her daughter in various organizations. One of her proudest Christian activities was being a mentor and support of the Junior Women Auxiliary of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas along with Sister Ola Beene and Sister Rebecca Terrell. They would travel and support all the DFW area as well as attend the various Junior Women meetings throughout the state of Texas. Dean made her earthly transitioned on the morning of Thursday March 8, 2018.Those who welcomed her arrival in heaven were her parents, Johnnie & Ruby Carroll, grandmother Frances Ross, husbands Jessie L. Newton, Sr. and Clarence O Vaughn, Sr., her beloved sister, Clara Vivian Reed and grandson Damon Tyrone Taylor. Her cousins, Don E. King, Sr., Thomas Ross, Mildred Joyce Pratt and Kameron Pratt.
