Audrey Lee Ivy was born to William Lorinzie and Ice Mae Ivy on August 2, 1932. She was the 3rd of 5 children born to this union. Audrey spent much of her early childhood growing up during the Great Depression. Money was scarce so the family worked hard growing their own food, picking crops for cash and doing their best to make ends meet. Their dad, tho, always made sure they had a new pair of shoes when school started. During the summer, they went barefoot. That is probably what convinced Audrey that shoes should only be worn when you couldn’t find a way to go barefoot. In fact, she insisted on no shoes for her final rest. Even though times were hard, Audrey and her siblings made their own fun wading thru creeks. fishing and exploring the woods. She always maintained that love of fishing her whole life.
On November 16, 1956, Audrey married Perry Welton Porter and together they had four children: Debra, Wayne, Linda and Bobby. They raised their family in Mesquite, Texas. Audrey spent much of her early adult life working as a printer for J. C. Penney’s in their administrative offices in Dallas. Later she worked for about 20 years for Grove Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, TX. When Audrey was young, one of the places they lived was Blue Ridge, TX. Audrey always had fond memories of that time and place. About 3 years ago, she had a chance to move back close to her family. She loved spending the last years of her life in Blue Ridge, TX surrounded by great neighbors, friends and family.
Audrey was blessed with six grandchildren: Scott (Marisa) Carlin, Kevin (Lissa) Carlin, Katherine (Mike) Cvejanovich, Stephanie (Justin) Lampman, Jenna (Chris) Capps, Philip (Amy) Sneed, and Katelyn Porter. While she loved her kids and grandkids, her most favorite activity was spending time with her great grandkids: Alysa, Kailey & Summer Carlin; Emma and Kasey Carlin; Luke & Sedona Cvejanovich; Beckett & Briar Lampman, Kyleigh, Bailey & Cambrie Capps; and Cole & Emilee Sneed.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, her husband Perry, son Wayne, sisters Hattie Geer and Glenda Russell, and brother Frankie Ivy. After a short battle with lung cancer, Audrey joined her family members in Heaven on June 21, 2022.
