

Austin Lee Thomas was born October 6, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to parents Louis "Pete" and Lena Juanita Thomas. He passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Athens Texas, with his loving family by his side. Austin grew up in Dallas and graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1961. He joined the Army and served his country for four years. He worked as a warehouse manager and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially gardening. Austin was also a soccer coach and a Boy Scout Troop Master. He was a firefighter with the Whitton Volunteer Fire Department where he held the rank of Sergeant at Arms. Austin was a past Master Mason of the James Ladd Burgess Masonic Lodge. Those that knew him said that he was very outspoken in regards to his political views. He enjoyed walking and feeding the horses with his granddaughter Shelby. He was preceded in death by his brother Louis Kenneth Thomas. Austin Lee Thomas is survived by his two sons, Philip Thomas and Ken Thomas and his wife Lisa; one granddaughter Shelby Lynn Thomas, and a host of family and friends. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
