She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was baptized at New Friendship Baptist Church, Robbins, IL.
Avyon served with great pride in the Department of the Air Force of America, including two years of Foreign Service in Japan. After four years of service, she was honorably discharged from active duty in 1992.
Avyon had a long successful career in education. She was a special education teacher in the Dallas Independent School District from 1995 to 2006. After working as a Special Ed teacher, she accepted a position as a high school counselor at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas. She worked as a High School Counselor for eleven years and retired in 2017.
After a brief time after high school, Avyon attended Cosmetology school and received a Cosmetologist license. She worked as beautician and barber for a short time before pursuing her goal in education. She attended Texas A&M University-Commerce – Master of Science/School Counseling – 2006; University of Maryland – Bachelor of Science/ Computer Service – 1991; Texas Teacher Certificate- 1994; She attended other learning institutions and received certificates of completions, in addition to many other awards and honors.
Avyon loved teaching and counseling students. She loved traveling and has traveled to many places. For many years “coming home” to Chicago was one of her greatest expectations. Reading was her passion, and she read many books. She was a member of a book club and she met and became close friends to the many of the members in the group. She loved attending live concerts, great restaurants and loved being the life of the party. She could light up a room with her smile.
Avyon King made her transition on Saturday, August 10, 2019, after a two-year illness.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her favorite aunt and mother figure, Ethel Johnson, Chicago, IL; a very special aunt, Marilyn Morrow; her special oldest aunt, Beatrice Higdon; aunts, Betty Lavigne, Linda Whitfield, Chicago, IL, Mayola Garmon, Missouri; her only uncle, Oscar King, Gary IN; special cousins: Marilyn King, Calvin King, Dalinn Morrow, Robert Whitfield and Anthony Scott; a host of special friends, to numerous to list, and many other relatives and friends.
Avyon will be truly missed by her family and friends. The love we have and share for her will live on in our hearts always.
