

Born in Ada, Oklahoma, July 13, 1931, Barbara passed away in her sleep at her home, Thursday, March 22, 2012. Her parents were Marshall Martin and Claudia Thomas Martin. She attended Ada High School and graduated from East Central State University in Ada in 1953 with a degree in Education. A former schoolteacher, she was an active member of her community through the North Dallas Women’s Club serving as an officer for several years, the Dallas Women’s Symphony League and several bridge clubs. She was member of Park Cities Baptist Church for over fifty years. When her children were young, she served as a member of the Dallas Parent-Teacher Association and as president of the William L. Cabell Elementary PTA and the W.T. White High School PTA. She was also Chairman of the Dallas City Council of PTAs. For her service, the Texas PTA awarded her a Lifetime membership.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marilyn Chitwood. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roger Bayless of Dallas; daughter Melinda Briggs and husband Ken of Rice, TX; daughter Shelley Hill and husband Michael of Keller and five grandchildren, Ken Briggs, III and Matthew Briggs of Rice, TX; Kathryn Krause of Bedford, TX and Joshua Hill and Jacob Hill of Keller, TX; brother-in-law Dick Bayless and his wife Betty of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law Mary Jean Mayhue of Ada, OK; brother-in-law Frank Chitwood of Tulsa, OK and many loving family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held in Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:00 am, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, TX 75225. A private family interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
