Barbara Cahoon Gabbert, 1921-2014. Mrs. Barbara Ann "Bobby" Cahoon Gabbert, 93, of Dallas, Texas, passed away quietly on August 4, 2014 in Dallas. She was the wife of the late Gordon Andrew Gabbert Sr. and was born in Dallas to Guy Forsythe Cahoon and Pearl Johnson Cahoon on March 7, 1921. Bobby spent her early years attending Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University until her studies were interrupted by the war. Her husband, Gordon, was a decorated pilot who was shot down in action. Bobby said one of her most difficult times in life was when she had to leave their infant son with family after Gordon was gravely injured in order to tend to him in a military hospital. This event in her life coincided with the recent death of her father. After the war, Bobby established her own interior and landscape design firm, which she managed from until 2010. After Gordon passed away, she moved to Presbyterian Village North, where she lived for over twenty years. Bobby was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, as well as the Dallas Woman’s Club, the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, and the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, which she began attending at the age of five. She was the Women’s Bible Study leader for several years and also held the position of Sunday School Secretary for several years. She expressed gratitude for the many friendships and experiences these organizations gave her, and felt that they changed her life. She counted family among the most important things in her life, and was preceded in death by her husband and parents, as well as her son Don Gabbert, sister Mary Almeda Cahoon Clendenin, and her husband Cecil Clendenin. She is survived by grandsons Christopher Tracy Gabbert, and Brian Haden Gabbert and his wife Amber Keller Gabbert, and their three daughters Meaghan, Madison, and Meredith, as well as her nephew Guy Clendenin and family. She also leaves behind a long list of lifelong friends. Bobby was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Bobby will take place at Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel East on August 18, 2014 at 1:00PM. A reception will follow.
