

Barbara Carol Luke, age 82, passed away on Sunday, March 20th, 2022 in Rowlett, TX. She was born on April 24th, 1939 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was mostly raised in California, and graduated college from the California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy. She spent several years as a Speech Therapist before leaving the profession to pursue other activities. She later went on to graduate from Texas Tech Law School with Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, and was a practicing Attorney at Law for the rest of her professional career, with the majority of her time spent working for the Environmental Protection Agency.
Barbara married Hugh Douglas Luke on April 27th, 1963, and they had three children, Glee Luke Grignon, Heather Luke DeJohn, and Scott Douglas Luke. Barbara and Doug lived many places during their lifetime, including Tachikawa AFB in Tokyo, Japan; Sacramento, CA; Placentia, CA; Garnerville, New York; Lubbock, TX; Dallas, TX and finally, Rowlett, TX.
Everywhere Barbara went, she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She enjoyed so many different activities, and the common denominator was that she loved being around people and cherished her friends. They truly enriched her life in addition to the activities that she enjoyed with them, such as traveling the world, Book Club, Poetry Group, Texas Tech Women Lawyers, Theater, scrapbooking, and gardening. There wasn’t anything Barbara was not willing to participate in, because she enjoyed life to the fullest.
Her pride and joy throughout her life was her family, Doug and her three children, Glee, Heather and Scott. She treasured her family and never hesitated to let them know it. Her family grew to include two son-in-laws, David Grignon and Albert DeJohn, a daughter-in-law, Anne Luke, and 7 grandchildren, Tiffany Grignon Reyna, Brittany Grignon, Brandon Grignon, Ryan DeJohn, Austin DeJohn, Allison Luke, and Aaron Luke, as well as 7 great-grandchildren, Oscar Avilla, Amber Avilla, Diego Reyna, Abigale Reyna, Jayden Grignon, Hayden Grignon, and Georgie Glee (GG) Hays.
Her family and friends will always remember her huge smile and immense joy she found in other’s happiness and success, her loyalty to her friends and family, and the overwhelming feeling of love that she made everyone feel from her. She will be truly missed and continue to be loved by so many.
