

Barbara grew up in Peoria, Illinois, and her first job was at Peoria Life Insurance Company where she met her future husband, Joseph McGauley. They were married on October 18, 1941. After living in Oak Park and Northbrook, Illinois, Barbara and Joe moved to Dallas, Texas in 1949 where they raised their family. Barbara was a talented artist whose gifts included among other things painting, ceramics, and sewing. She was a woman of strong faith who unselfishly gave of her time and talents to help other people. Barbara was a doting grandmother who was lovingly referred to as “Gram” by her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She embraced life and never stopped living it to the fullest. Her legacy lives on through all of the lives she touched.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Martin and husband Jerry, and her son, Brian McGauley; grandchildren Amy Martin Hejnicki and husband Mark, Alison McGauley Williams and husband Matt, Christopher McGauley, Joseph Martin and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren Kyle, Kathryn, and Courtney Hejnicki; Amelia Williams; Lauren and Matthew McGauley; Emily and Sabrina Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 19 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, September 20 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas. Services will be conducted by Dr. Fran Shelton and Barbara’s nephew, Michael Blome. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
