Barbara Whorton, age 73, passed away on July 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, boundless love, and selfless devotion. She was born on December 10, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Lester and Wanda Vineyard. Barbara was raised in Dallas, Texas and attended H. Grady Spruce High School.
Barbara lived a life defined by the things that matter most: an unwavering faith, a deep love for her family, and a quiet, selfless grace. For 54 wonderful years, Barbara and her husband, Ken, were side-by-side. Together, they built a life rooted in love and faith, showing everyone around them what true commitment and partnership really look like.
More than anything, Barbara was all about her family. She was a fiercely proud and loving mother to her two children, standing by them through every single high and low of life. Her greatest joy was simply watching her family grow, and nothing made her happier than a room filled with the people she loved most.
Her grandchildren were the absolute center of her world. Barbara treasured every moment with them and celebrated their achievements, big or small, with so much pride. If her grandsons had a baseball game, you could guarantee Barbara was on the sidelines. Her enthusiastic cheers were always the loudest in the crowd, and she rarely missed a single game—bringing a kind of joy and energy that only a grandmother could.
Barbara’s faith wasn't just something she practiced on Sundays; it was truly how she lived. She was a heartbeat of her church community, always looking for ways to serve others, worshiping with her church family, and sharing God's love with everyone she met. Gospel music held an incredibly special place in her heart, and those songs of hope and grace were the soundtrack to her daily life.
She had a naturally warm spirit and a smile that instantly made people feel at ease. Barbara had a gift for making friends wherever she went, but more than that, she had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and genuinely valued. Her kindness and quiet strength will continue to inspire everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
While we will miss her deeply, Barbara’s warmth, laughter, and love are woven into the lives of Ken, her children, her cherished grandkids, and the many friends who became like family. We take great comfort in knowing she is at peace, resting in the arms of her Savior and reunited with the loved ones who went home before her. Her life was a beautiful reminder of what it means to love unconditionally, and her memory will be held close for generations to come.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Wanda Vineyard, and her brother, James Butch Vineyard. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Whorton; her daughter DeeDee; her son, Kevin; and her grandchildren, Cassandra, Kollin, Lola, Destiny, and London. She is also survived by her brother, Tommy Vineyard and wife Linda, and her brother, Ricky Vineyard.
Pallbearers will be Michael Quintana, Johnny Vineyard, Jamie Barnes, Shane Roberts, Brandon Germanos, and Dominick Ware.
