Mrs. Barbara Joyce (Parker) Williams

Barbara Joyce Parker Williams was born August 19, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to James D., Sr. and Alverniece Parker. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined True Purpose Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her grandfather, the late Rev. A. L. Wilburn, Sr. She later served under the leadership of her brother, Rev. James D. Parker, Jr. Barbara faithfully served as the church’s financial secretary for over thirty years.

Barbara graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Dallas, TX, class of 1967. She went on to graduate from Bishop College and later earned a graduate degree from Prairie View A&M University.

For 40 years, Barbara was united in holy matrimony to Sonny George Williams, FDR class of 1966. He honored their love and was a dedicated husband, provider and caregiver for her until the end.

Barbara was passionate about education and her greatest joy was teaching young scholars to read. Barbara worked throughout the Dallas Independent School District at various elementary schools. She retired from education in 2001 with 30 years of commitment and service to young children.

She was an active member of Community Missionary Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of Rev. Oscar D. Epps, Sr. Sister Williams was a faithful tither and served in various capacities within the church, including the choir and senior ministry.

Barbara is preceded in death by her loving parents: James D. Sr. and Alverniece Parker.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Sonny George Williams, daughters: Traci (Gerold) and Teri (Steven) two sisters: Sherry Diane Rose and Janet Kemp, one brother: Rev. James D. Parker, Jr. dearest niece: State Representative Toni Rose; five grandchildren: Nia, Gerold III, Sydnee, Steven Jr.(Champ) and Sophie, the Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Alpha Xi Omega Chapter), Community Missionary Baptist Church and True Purpose Missionary Baptist church families, DISD family, Roosevelt Mustangs and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Barbara Parker Williams will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for the wake service and Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. for the funeral service. Both services will be held at Community Missionary Baptist Church located at 115 W. Beltline Road in Desoto, TX.
