Ben was born in Dallas, Texas. Benjamin Edward Law was born to parents Sundra Mitchell Law Taylor and Booker T. Law, Jr. on November 9, 1986 in Dallas, Texas. He was the youngest of 5 children. Kimberlyn, Hassan, Booker and Jennifer loved their little brother.
Benjamin accepted God at an early age. He was a member at St Mark AME Zion. He served as an acolyte in various conferences as a young child and had a beautiful singing voice.
Ben graduated from Jesuit Preparatory School in 2005. At that time, the Jesuit faculty selected him to receive The “Man for Others” Award. It is the highest award given to students “who exemplify, in their words and actions, going outside themselves to establish their own identity and move beyond self-interest and self-centeredness in human relationships”. As a “Man for Others”, Benjamin truly found real happiness and joy in the love, friendship, and companionship of other people.
He was awarded an academic scholarship and attended Morehouse College from 2005 to 2007 where he studied Business Administration and Management. He earned an Associate of Science in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications Administration from Remington College. As a Remington alum, he served on the Professional Advisory Committee. He worked as a Network and Education Administrator, IT Professional and Graphic Design Artist.
Benjamin was in Toastmasters and worked in the community to advocate the development of communication skills in everyone. As an adult, Ben rededicated himself to the Lord and was baptized by Reverend Johnny R. Flowers. He worked diligently as a church member and volunteered at community organizations focused on public health and those facing housing instability.
Most of all, Benjamin was inspirational. He was a light to those who knew him, funny beyond belief, and deeply loved by so many. To his nieces and nephews he was “The Funcle” who dished out laughs, protection and advice because he cared to contribute to the success of future generations. “Pretty Tony what they called” him, as he was the best looking Law Brother. He may have been the baby brother but his impact on all of his siblings was enormous.
Benjamin was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Ira Mitchell and Louise Runnels Mitchell, his paternal grandparents Booker Law and Darcus Riser Law, brother J’Dion King and many beloved uncles, aunts and cousins. He is survived by his mother Sundra Taylor (Carvin), father Booker T. Law, Jr. (Marilyn), siblings Kimberlyn, Hassan (Carmen), Booker III (Diamond) and Jennifer (Jeffrey). He is also survived by nieces and nephews Ariel, Roxie, Jackson, Booker IV, Marley, Jones and Ivy. He will be missed by his many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
While we are all deeply saddened by the loss of his light from this world, don’t allow anger to rule your healing. Ben’s favorite quote was ”One minute of anger robs your life of sixty seconds of happiness” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
