

Bernice Lavonne Coulter, aged 84, died peacefully and surrounded by family, at William P. Clements Hospital in Dallas, Texas, Monday, December 14, 2015, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Bernice was born in Dallas May 7, 1931, the daughter of James Neal Buchanan and Verlie Juanita Dennis Buchanan. She had an older brother, James Roland Buchanan and a younger sister, Carolyn Buchanan Hobbs, both who preceded her in death. Bernice grew up in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School. She then met and married the love of her life, Joe J. Coulter, also from Oak Cliff. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Bernice and Joe raised four children together. She was devoted to her family, working tirelessly to see to their needs and help them meet their goals. She worked for LTV in Grand Prairie procuring parts for aircraft such as the A-7. Meanwhile, she enjoyed square dancing and they were members of the Desoto Stars Square Dancing Group. After they retired, she and Joe remained in Oak Cliff where they restored two historic Oak Cliff homes which became a labor of love for both of them. She remained a proud supporter of the Oak Cliff Community throughout her life. After this, they moved to Cedar Creek Lake where they spent several happy years before moving back to the metroplex to be near their daughters and medical facilities. Bernice is survived by her husband, Joe J. Coulter; son, Dr. Steven Coulter of Fort Payne, Alabama, daughters, Janice Miron of Roanoke, Texas, Kimberly Stallo of Colleyville, Texas, and Kathy Michels of Keller, Texas; 1 daughter -in-law, 3 son-in-laws, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a number of other close relatives and friends. There will be a service at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas Texas at 12:00 pm, Friday, December 18, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to The American Cancer Society.
