She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Community Baptist Church in Dawson, Texas and later united with Zion Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. Charlie Hemphill, 3 children Bobbie Jean, Jerdene and Charles, 2 grandchildren Rubin T. and Alex, five brothers, and four sisters.
She used to love sewing and she had a passion for cooking and loved doing so until she retired. She was an endless source of love, whether it was the soft love of encouragement or the tougher love of correction, the smooth love of praise or the rougher love of hard truth, it was endless and profound love. To know her was to love her and she did not meet a stranger. She would feed you and greet you with a warm welcome and didn’t mind sharing the disciplinary rod of “Love”.
Those left behind to cherish her sweet memories are her two daughters, Charlene (Gerry) Lewis, Garland, Texas, Sharon Hemphill-Lewis, Mesquite, Texas, three sons, Robert R. Hemphill Sr., Charles (Sandra) Hemphill both of Dallas, Texas Alvin (Bonnie) Hemphill Sr., Defuniak Springs, Florida, brother, Joe Earl (Betty) Oliver, Houston, Texas, sister, Willie Pearl Colbert, Compton, California: 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
