Rosary will be 7:00pm on Sunday, June 13th at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, with public viewing from 4-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 14th at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Fr. Salvador Guzman officiating. Burial to follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
Betty Elizabeth Hernandez was born in Cotulla, Texas to Antonio and Isabel Velasquez Elizardo, Sr. on September 20, 1933. She went to school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Adrian, Michigan. She married Mathias Hernandez on January 31, 1965 in Dallas, Texas.
Betty moved to Dallas in 1956 from Adrian, Michigan. She worked at the Statler Hilton for a time before moving on to the Sheraton Hotel where she was a head cashier for several years. She worked as a technical specialist for Texas Instruments for several years and retired from TI in 1991. Betty enjoyed her retirement for a period of time before becoming restless and decided she was ready for a new challenge, she went to work at PRM as a collector until 2006.
Betty will surely be remembered for her spunky, feisty energetic personality, beautiful smile and a definite sense of style. She will also be remembered for being so giving to her family and devoted to their care and wellbeing. Betty definitely kept her family and friends on their toes enjoyed family gatherings, rooting for her Dallas Cowboys and especially seeing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren!
Betty was a parishioner of St. Pius Catholic church for 45 years. In her later years she read her bible daily to become ever so close to God to strengthen her faith during the challenges of life.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Isabel Velasquez Elizardo, Sr. husband, Mathias Hernandez, son, Richard Barrera, brothers, Sonny Elizardo, Ray Elizardo, Oscar Elizardo, Tony Elizardo, Arthur Elizardo and Bobby Elizardo.
Betty is survived by her children, Mary Diane Velarde, Edward {Yolanda} Flores, Rebecca {Daniel} Basquez, sister, Elsie {Lorenzo} Aranda, Grandchildren, Michelle {Juan} Ugalde, Leslie Robbins, Edward{Sonya} Flores III, Gabriel Vilson, Crystal Flores, Monica Flores, Letecia {Kevin} Gutierrez , Alicia Christine{Carlos}Saenz, 26 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews)
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Christian Research Hospital.
