Betty Louise Bell Stanfield, age 88, of Rockwall, Texas and formerly Plano, Texas passed away on November 28, 2020 at home, with her son by her side. Betty was born on November 16, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to Louise (Grube) and Johnnie Bell. She was born just 13 months after the birth of her sister and best friend Anita. Friends often referred to them as Sister A and Sister B, but they simply called each other sister. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, in Dallas and attended North Texas State College (UNT) in Denton. Prior to marriage, Betty was a skilled executive secretary and met her husband, Charles Stanfield, while working at Timco. They married on January 31, 1959 and Betty joined him in Austin where Charles completed his degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas. The time spent in Austin made Betty a lifelong Longhorn fan.
Betty loved sports, an interest she acquired from her father. She would watch any level of competition from grade school to professional, including baseball, basketball, football, tennis and golf. She supported all the hometown teams and would often listen to one game on the radio while watching another on tv. She was an accomplished card player whether it was bridge or poker. She was a supportive and involved mother serving as a home room mom over many years. Betty enthusiastically attended her children’s (Chuck and Susan) sports, theater, music, and debate events. She was always willing to buy her children books and records encouraging their lifelong love of music and reading.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles Stanfield, her parents, Johnnie and Louise Bell, her sister Anita McKinney and her brothers-in-law Robert McKinney, Paul Wayne Ernst, and James Stanfield.
Betty is survived by her children, Charles Stanfield, Jr. and Susan Stanfield, her aunt, Helen Grube, her sisters-in-law Alice Ernst and Joan Stanfield, her nephews, Steven (Carol) Ernst, Keith Ernst, Robert (Kay Ann) McKinney, John (Terri) McKinney, and John (Bernie) Stanfield, and her nieces, Mary Baker and Julie Ochs and a large extended family that she loved very much. She is also survived by her caregiver, Mari Mendez who provided her such good care and is loved by our entire family
