Betty Claire Tosch was born in 1927 in Big Spring, Texas. After her father died at age two, her mother moved her and her sister, Joyce, to Dallas to be with family. Betty weathered the Depression and World War II before she even entered college at SMU, where she was a Chi Omega and a Rotunda Beauty. Those days were some of the happiest of her life.
She married Fred Tosch, Junior at age 25 and had two children, Jan and Freddie. After her divorce in the mid-70s, Betty never remarried, throwing herself into an independent life. She loved shopping and bridge, reading and, most of all, painting. Her family members’ houses always look like a Betty Tosch gallery, with still lifes, portraits, and landscapes on every wall. She loved her children and grandchild, and though she would eventually grow apart from some of her family members, she remained extremely close to the three most important people in her life.
Betty passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Clyde Fox; her sister, Joyce Fox; and her daughter, Janet Lewis. She is survived by her son, Fred Tosch III, and her granddaughter, Kristy Blackmon.
