

Betty received her early education at Douglass-Dunbar in Mexia, Texas. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. She received a Secretarial Certificate from ManPower Secretarial School in Dallas, Texas and later attended Eastfield College for two years.
Betty met and married George Washington Jr. in 1954. He preceded her in death. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, J C Jefferson, Eddie Lee Jefferson and stepfather J R Walker. Her brothers, Willie Jefferson, Maurice Jefferson, Harold Walker; and her sister, Mary Jefferson. Her daughter, Sandra Kay Washington; her son, Andre Washington; and her grandson, Byron Washington.
Betty accepted Christ at an early age. She united with Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C. C. Roberston where she served as secretary and she later joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert E. Murphy. At the time of her passing, she was still a member of Mt. Pisgah under the leadership of Pastor Lesley Booker.
Betty worked at Dallas County Mental Health Mental Retardation (MHMR) for 10 years. She retired from UT Southwestern Medical Center (Microbiology Dept.) after serving as an Administrative Assistant for 21 years. She was the president of her Dallas Chapter Dunbar-Douglass Alumni Association.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory; seven children; Gregory, Yolanda, Stevelynne, Wanda, Vincent, Roshun (Tommie), and Shavun (Wendell). 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. Her special friend of 60+years, Glenna Martin and special niece, Yvonne Proctor.
