Outgoing and popular everywhere she went, Beverly was a cheerleader at Donelson High School and graduated from Clarksville High School. During a time when supporting a husband’s career was paramount, Beverly relished the experience and adventure of living in Hartford, Connecticut and Wilmington, Delaware. She enthusiastically contributed her creativity, talent and elegance to countless efforts for her family and friends. She traveled extensively, enjoying the experiences immensely. The English Cotswolds, Black Forest of Germany and Steamboat Springs, Colorado were some of her favorite places, but she never ceased talking about the beauty of middle Tennessee, which she always considered “home”. A proud Tennessean until the end, she was fond of saying “Texas wouldn’t exist without Tennessee!”
Known to many as the “High Priestess of the Dallas Market Center”, Beverly warmly greeted and assisted thousands of visitors in her position managing registration from 1980 until her retirement in 2005. This is where her talents truly shined, and it was the experience of a lifetime. Until long after her retirement, anywhere in Dallas and even around the world, people would come up to her and say, “I feel like I know you from somewhere?” She would mention the Market Center and a big smile and hug would follow, often with a story of how she had assisted them or helped a friend.
Beverly was a member of Prestoncrest Church of Christ for many years. Friends from the “Pacesetters” Sunday School class stood by her during life’s sorrows, but all the laughter, fun and joy they shared was what she treasured most.
Predeceased by her husband James William (Dick) Gentry, husband George L. Starry, and brother Landis Bargatze, Beverly is survived by daughter, Lynne Gentry (Kelly McCarthy), beloved grandson Nicholas Gentry Harelik, and sister Sherrie Bargatze. Donations in her honor may be made to the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, an organization dedicated to research and prevention of the disease in women https://thewomensalzheimersmovement.org/ , Salvation Army https://salvationarmyntx.org/north-texas/waystogive/ or the charity of your choice.
