Billie Jean Carter went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 20, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. She was born on October 24,1933, in Dallas, Texas, to Margaret T. Warren and Ralph Laughlin. She was lovingly raised by Margaret and Charlie Rotramel, alongside her two siblings, Sue Rotramel, born August 18, 1946, and Jack Rotramel, born January 6, 1948.
Billie graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1951 and began her working career at A. Harris Department Store. On January 30, 1953, she married John Rylan Pruitt. Together, they welcomed two children, Denise Pruitt Yates, born September 28, 1953, and Rylan Dewayne Pruitt, born December 14, 1964. On January 13, 1967, Billie married Bill Carter, and they shared 21 years of marriage together.
Family was at the heart of Billie’s life. She loved cooking for her family and hosting Sunday lunch after church. She loved having her family together around the table.
Billie lived her life with the joy of Christ and shared that joy with her family. She sang in the church choir and participated in small-group Bible studies because she loved studying the Word of the Lord. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Garland. Even after moving away from Garland, she remained connected to her Sunday School class each week. On Sunday mornings, you could often find Billie on her iPad, singing along to her favorite hymns and interacting with the ladies in her class.
Billie loved spending time with family and friends, especially playing games. Her competitive spirit never faded, even at 92! She was lovingly known as “Granny” and “BeBe” and treasured being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Charlie Rotramel; and her siblings, Sue Ragsdale and Jack Rotramel.
She is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Denise Yates; her son, Rylan Pruitt and his wife, Barbie; her grandchildren, Aimee Cooper and her husband, Chris; Spencer Pruitt; Skyler Pruitt and his wife, Amy; Brooke Harper and her husband, Dillon; and her great-grandchildren, Hattie Sue, Cora Jean, and Birdie Lynne.
Billie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
