

Billy Blackburn, age 80 of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully October 22, 2014. He is now forever healed and celebrating in heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ. The son of Charlie and Edna Blackburn, Billy was born October 28, 1933, in Loris, South Carolina. The Blackburn family included eleven brothers and sisters. He is predeceased by Guy, Violet, Clio, Pauline, CV, Paul, Ida Mable, Gene and Jack, and is survived by his sisters, Estelle and Joanne. Following graduation from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, Billy enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country selflessly and honorably over a 20 year career, and fought in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Billy was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals. Before retiring from the Army, Billy attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and was serving as an Army recruiter. Billy was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. After retirement from the Army, Billy located to Allen, Texas. He put his people and entrepreneurial skills to use and built a successful remodeling business, B & C Builders. For over 20 years, Billy operated his business through hard work, determination, a cheerful good nature, charisma and love of people. Billy's greatest legacy is his unconditional love for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, & grandfather known for his quick wit and fun loving personality. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kay; his children Laurie, Cheryl, Mark, Neil, and Scott; Kay's children Troy, Garry and Kacey; as well as 17 beloved grandchildren that adored their "Poppy Bill" – Arty, Jonathan, Keith, Haley, Brady, Laura Lee, Lindsy, Lily, Ruth, Molly, Anna, Rumer, Kori, Kendel, Kennedy, Shawn and Ethan. Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10am at the Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
