Bill was a champion golden glove boxer in his youth.
He was known in his youth and in his service years for his arm wrestling strength. According to his Air Force buddy, service men would make the trip to his base for a shot at him, but very few succeeded.
He was a two-star rank, Major General in the United States Air Force.
A top ranked agent in the insurance business, he earned many world wide travel trips with his wife.
He was honored to be a deacon in his church until the end of his life.
A victor over Leukemia, he was also a fighter against many other diseases, defying doctors predictions for over thirty years.
Bill was a fixer of anything.
He was a devoted Christian and a good friend to many, always interested in other’s lives.
Being a man of many good and funny stories, he would often bust out in laughter. Everyone likes a good story teller. His life stories were always interesting.
As a family man, he was dedicated to his two children, grandchildren, and greats. He made it known that he was very proud of his grandchildren.
Papa was never a complainer, regardless how bad he felt, he always encouraged others instead, to the very end.
He was a protecting and loving husband for 61 years to Sylvia. Oh how he loved “Sweet Woman”. A quote from our last Sunday visit a few days ago... “Y’all should have seen Mom this morning when she went to church. She looked beautiful. She looked like she was twenty-five years old.”
He enjoyed seeing the house getting decorated for Christmas that day, while he drank his Dr Pepper as always.
Let’s not forget his little dog, Bella. Where he was, she was.
Papa took great pride in his garden. He was always ready to walk out and spend a few minutes talking about it and picking a few vegetables to share.
He was a great Father-in-law.
Bill Strickland was a top tier respectable man in the way he lived his life. His constant smile, encouragement, and kindness will surely be missed by all who knew him.
Rest In Peace Good Sir, you most definitely fought the good fight.
