Bobbie Jean McCormick Wilson peacefully departed this life on May 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, excellence, and love. Born on August 29, 1941, in Sweetwater, Texas known today as the Wind Turbine Capital of Texas Bobbie was the cherished daughter of Eura Hayes McCormick and Elbridge McCormick.
At an early age, Bobbie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and committed her life to serving others. Her Christian faith was the foundation of everything she did and guided her interactions with family, friends, colleagues, and strangers alike. She believed that serving people was one of the highest callings of a Christian life, and she faithfully lived out that belief throughout her life.
Bobbie was a proud graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lubbock, Texas. Her academic and musical talents earned her a full band scholarship to attend Langston University, where she proudly performed with the renowned Marching Pride Band. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Langston University and later received her master’s degree in early childhood education from Texas Woman’s University.
Education was more than a profession for Bobbie; it was her calling. She began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher at Posey Elementary School in Lubbock ISD. After relocating to Dallas, she worked for Collins Radio Company during the exciting era of aerospace electronics, contributing to technologies developed during the space race and the advancement of early microwave communications.
Soon afterward, she returned to her true passion; educating children. She taught at Dunbar Elementary School in Dallas ISD during the early 1970s before embarking on what would become the defining chapter of her professional life. Bobbie joined Crossroads Day Care at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, where she served for 35 years becoming a Director. Through her leadership, compassion, and commitment to excellence, she helped shape the lives of countless children and families throughout Dallas. Even after retiring in 2006, her devotion remained steadfast as she returned to Crossroads to assist during a period of organizational transition.
Bobbie was known for her remarkable ability to do everything with excellence. Family and friends often described her as a “fixer”, someone who could solve almost any problem placed before her. Whether repairing household items, preparing an unforgettable meal, or even working on automobiles, Bobbie approached every task with confidence, determination, and skill. There seemed to be very little she could not do.
An excellent cook, Bobbie delighted in bringing family and friends together around her table. She loved gardening and landscaping, transforming ordinary spaces into beautiful
displays of color and life. She also found great joy in volunteering, feeding the homeless, and helping anyone in need.
Friends and family remember Bobbie as a woman of calm strength and quiet wisdom. She was a peacemaker, a problem solver, and someone deeply committed to the well-being of others. Though gentle in spirit, she was also tenacious. She demonstrated extraordinary determination throughout her life, including making significant personal changes by embracing a vegetarian lifestyle and successfully giving up smoking in pursuit of better health.
Above all, Bobbie loved her family. Her daughter, Carol Wilson, was the pride of her world, and her grandson, Trevor Donaldson, was the joy of her world. She cherished her parents, siblings, and her nieces and nephews were the apples of her eye! Their happiness and accomplishments brought her immeasurable love and pride.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joel Wilson; parents Eura & Elbridge McCormick; her sister, Shirley Ruth McCormick Medlock; and her brothers, Donald Earl McCormick and James Robert McCormick.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Carol Wilson; her beloved grandson, Trevor Donaldson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, former students, and the many lives she touched through her decades of service.
