Braulio “Manuel” Ortega, age 99, passed away on October 13, 2026. Born on March 27, 1927, in Dennison, TX, Manuel was raised and lived in Dallas, Texas, where his steady presence and enduring example were deeply cherished.
Manuel served his country with honor as a PFC in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 351st Infantry unit as a Utility Repairman and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. His life reflected the quiet strength of a man who met responsibility with resilience and carried himself with honesty and wisdom.
A devoted provider and steadfast worker, Manuel retired from LaFarge Corp. on November 30, 1999, after 49 years of employment. He believed in earning what you wanted—nothing was free in life—and he lived that principle with consistency, dignity, and purpose.
Manuel was married to Esperanza Martinez for almost 50 years, until her passing. Together they raised four daughters: Mary Reina, Linda Moya, Patricia Sendejas, and Aurora Retta. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren—each a continuation of the family he worked so hard to support and protect.
In daily life, Manuel found meaning in simple, faithful routines and the work of his hands. He liked to utilize the skills he learned in the Army and did plumbing work on the side. He enjoyed working in his yard and maintaining his home, taking pride in what he built and cared for. A devout Catholic, he also valued time with family—especially cooking out together—and he enjoyed his daily walks.
Those who knew Manuel will remember not only his devotion to family, but also the warmth that surfaced in the phrases that became uniquely his. A favorite saying was, “Oh me, bless my little soul.” And when it was time for a photo, he would always say, “cheese or cake.”
