Carlos Germidia Nuñez, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law, twin grandsons, and his nursing aids on Friday, August 15, 2025 (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary).
He was born on February 29,1936 in Manila, Philippines and came to the United States in January of 1966 settling in Pittsburgh, PA. He then took a job opportunity in California where his wife and children joined him in September of 1968. The family resided in Richmond, CA for 48 years. He worked as a CPA throughout his career, retiring at the age of 72.
Carlos, Kito, Carlito, Tito To, Tito Carlos, Bro. Carlos as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and those who were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended with Alzheimer’s disease, but for the way it was lived – as a devoted husband, father, and doting grandfather.
He was a devoted Catholic and served throughout the years as a Eucharistic Minister at St. David’s Catholic Church in Richmond, CA and at The Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, CA. He served as a Rector, Treasurer, and Mentor to the Filipino Cursillo Community in the San Francisco Bay Area. In his spare time, he loved fishing in the California bay, watching war movies, listening to music and singing his favorite song, “I Did It My Way”. He was a survivor of WWII when the Japanese invaded the Philippines.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Regina Ocson Santiago Nuñez, his loving children Maricar Santiago Nuñez Garcia, Romel Anthony Santiago Nuñez, his loving grandchildren, Alexander Paul Nuñez Edgar, Brandon James Nuñez Edgar, Alysha Kathlene Nuñez, and Julian Christopher Nuñez. He also leaves behind his adoptive siblings Prisco T. Evangelista, Eva G. Hautea, Arturo T. Evangelista, his half sister Maria Corazon Gonzales, and a host of nieces and nephews who shared in his joyful spirit.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Jude Santiago Nuñez, his parents, Eligio Garcia Nuñez and Candelaria Hermedia (biological parents) and Prisco Nuñez Evangelista and Natividad Tinio Evangelista (adoptive parents), Cecilia Evangelista Fojas (adoptive sister), and half-siblings from his mother Candelaria Hermedia: Flora Hermedia Nuñez, Totoy Hermedia Gonzales, Flora Hermedia Gonzales, Alfredo Hermedia Gonzales, Jesus Hermedia Gonzales, Bayani Hermedia Gonzales.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX 75220. Services will begin with a Catholic Mass and will be live streamed on Facebook. Internment of the Urn, and Reception will follow.
