Carol Hinson Cavitt, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 4, 2024 after a brief illness.
She was born in Dallas on August 31, 1936, to G. R. “Jake” Hinson and Lucille Rowland Hinson, their firstborn with her sister, Nina following 5 years later. The family was very involved in the First Baptist Church of Dallas, where she was a lifelong member. Carol and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and from this she developed a love of always traveling. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1954 and attended Baylor University. She transferred to Oklahoma State University to pursue her degree in Interior Design where she met her future husband, Jack Cavitt.
After marrying, she had a daughter Dixie Lee, and the family relocated to various cities around the country because of Jack being in the Air Force and subsequently in the Vietnam war. She really enjoyed living on base and being involved in all the activities associated with being a military wife. After they left the Air Force, they relocated to southern California where she concentrated on being a wife and mother while Jack was an airline pilot.
After divorcing, Carol and Dixie moved back to Dallas, where she pursued a nursing degree and career. She graduated from El Centro college and took the test to get her Registered Nurse license and made the second highest score in the state on that test. She loved the Psychiatric nursing field and was a psychiatric nurse for over 20 years for Baylor Hospital. She and her mother Lucille, purchased a lake house at Hideaway Lake, Texas and that was one of the happiest times of her life, living and exploring in east Texas. After her mother declined, the house was sold and she moved to Dallas and took care of her mother until she died.
The joys of her life were her grandchildren, Rachel and Andrew. She was very involved in their lives, constantly traveling to wherever they lived and attending school functions, basketball and soccer games, birthdays and other significant milestones in their lives. She also loved traveling with and seeing her sister Nina, whenever possible.
Activities she loved were her church, watching tennis, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys (are they ever going back to the Super Bowl?), reading, antiquing, playing bridge, and collecting McCoy pottery.
She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Soong of Dallas, TX, and Rachel Soong and Andrew Soong of Monroe, LA. Services will be at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas on Saturday, July 13, 2024 with viewing at 10:00 am and graveside at 11:00. The family encourages attendees to wear bright colors to celebrate Carol's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either First Baptist Church of Dallas or the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
