John 14:2–3 ‘In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
On October 6, 2025, Carol Henningsen Mattil was welcomed by her Savior to the place He had prepared for her.
Carol was born July 31, 1933, to Carl and Hildegard Henningsen in San Antonio, Texas, the youngest of nine children, two of whom died before she was born. She married Frederick Mattil on January 6, 1954, in San Antonio.
She is survived by her children: Stephen Mattil of Dallas; Elizabeth Melde and husband Dennis of Kennesaw, Georgia; Michael Mattil and wife Cheryl of Bells, Texas; and Deb Opsahl and husband Tom of Dallas Texas; sister Grace Prewitt of San Antonio; Nineteen grandchildren and Seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Carol’s entry into heaven will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dallas, Texas on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. Carol’s husband, Frederick, who proceeded her in death, served as pastor of that congregation from 1966-1989.
Memorials can be given to Burandt-Mattil Scholarship fund to help train church workers to share the good news of Jesus with future generations. You can give online through the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church website below.
