

June 18, 1929 – April 29, 2016. Dallas, Texas. Carol Young Calder died April 29, 2016 after a long illness. She was 86 years old. A native of Oklahoma City, Carol attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduating from OU, Carol married Jimmy Vickers, with whom she had five children. In 1995, Carol married her devoted husband, Bruce Calder, with whom she spent many wonderful years. Carol excelled in her interior design work over the years and enjoyed extensive travel, golf and the arts. She was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous helping many in recovery during her 40 years of sobriety. Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, warmth and beauty. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Lee William Young and Elise Mae Urmston; her sister, Ann McKinley; and her brother, Stanton Young. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Calder; her children, Jimmy Vickers, Debbie Grisamore and husband Greg, Peter Vickers and wife Gordana, Michael Vickers and wife Colleen, Kenny Vickers and wife Becki as well as stepchildren and grandchildren. The family wants to send a special “thank you” to the wonderful staff of the Belmont Village, to her caregivers, Raquel Garcia and Claudia Bankston as well as New Century Hospice and their wonderful caregivers. The visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 3 o’clock p.m. in the Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center or the charity of your choice.
