Carolyn Seitzler, 81, passed away on September 5, 2024 from pancreatic cancer. She was born October 20, 1942, in Dallas, Texas to Wincel and Winnie Belle Adams. She was raised in the Urbandale neighborhood of Dallas and graduated high school from W.W. Samuell in 1960 as the class Salutatorian. In high school, Carolyn played the clarinet, acted in school plays, and had numerous friends. For years she helped organize Samuell High Class of 1960 reunions, where she enjoyed catching up with friends and relishing in fun memories. Shortly after graduating, she married her childhood sweetheart, David Seitzler. They had been married for 61 years, prior to David’s death.
Education was always important to Carolyn. So, even though she was married and had two young children, she worked hard to earn her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Angelo State University. Carolyn loved the years she spent in the San Angelo area, and often spoke fondly of the places and people she experienced there. Upon returning to the Dallas area in the early 1970’s, Carolyn began her career as a math teacher. For over 30 years, Carolyn taught math to middle school and high school students in Kaufman, Mesquite, and Wills Point ISDs. She enjoyed helping students to think in algebraic ways, and she often tutored neighbors and grandkids to help them earn better grades in math.
After earning her MBA from East Texas State University, Carolyn took a break from teaching for a while to be a property manager at Commercial Parks office complex in Mesquite, TX. She ran the answering service there for several years. She fondly recalled the friends and business owners that she met while working there. At one point she answered phones for nearly 70 businesses, and even though it could be hectic work, she enjoyed talking with people and helping them to conduct their business. Her experiences at Commercial Parks fostered lots of stories and fun memories for the family in later years.
Carolyn enjoyed traveling and laughing with David, baking cakes for all the birthdays (most of which were in August, September, and October), attending church, and making quilts for babies. However, her greatest pleasures came in her grandchildren. She made quilts for the new grandbabies and great grandbabies. She attended their concerts, sewed their costumes, watched their ball games, beat them in board games, and learned to text so that she could keep up with them. Grandma was special to them, and they were to her. “My grandkids and I have our own thing going on…,” she recently stated. After David’s passing in 2022, Carolyn kept busy with her little dog, Heidi, and with making cross-stitched squares for “quilts-to-be.” She loved listening to music of all genres and streaming movies and crime shows.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband William David Seitzler, parents, Wincel and Winnie Adams, brothers Philip Ray Adams and Thomas Adams. She is survived by her brother, Donald Adams; her children Becky McKee (Rickie), Bill Seitzler (Lynette), and Bonnye Kath (Steve); her grandchildren Matthew McKee (Shannon), Mitchell McKee (Mary), Marshall McKee, David Kath, Jonathan Kath, Madeline Kath, Ellie Seitzler and Erin Seitzler; and her five great-grandchildren Miles McKee, Nolan McKee, Finley McKee, Shane McKee, and Charley McKee, and a sixth great grand arriving soon! She will be deeply missed by friends and family, but she is smiling with David in their heavenly home.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Faith Presbyterian Hospice and the T. Boone Pickens Center for providing a caring environment during her final days.
