Catherine Kouri Massad was born to Lebanese immigrants from Marjeyoun, Lebanon, George Kouri and Helen Swyden Kouri. She entered into life on May 3, 1928 in Brinkman, Oklahoma. She was the third of six children who grew up on a farm where she picked cotton in this tiny town. She was a graduate of Brinkman High School. She married Nicholas Massad at the age of 18, and in 1953 moved to Dallas where she spent the rest of her life in the town she grew to love. She had a long career with Sanger-Harris / Foleys (now known as Macy’s) where she received numerous awards for customer service. She retired after 27 years. Catherine was a dedicated Orthodox Christian and longtime fixture at Antiochian Women functions, and was also known for her volunteer icon and gift shop known as “Catherine’s Corner” at St. Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church, of which she was a founding member and spent more than 30 years loving and building. Catherine was a dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many. She was an example of a Godly life for all to follow. She was described as independent, strong, a giver, and a leader to many. She always wanted to be a writer and published an article about her immigrant family in The Brinkman Book. She was an avid sports fan which included the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, OU Sooners and the Dallas Mavericks just to name a few.
