William Richard and Mary Ardell Roach already had a couple of kids on August 10, 1949, there was Patsy, and Dick, and Mike, and Nanette Susan so when Doris Catherine came along it was more the merrier. A couple of years later John joined in. In 1955 they moved to Dallas.
She went by “Doris” until she graduated from Bishop Dunn high school. When she started at North Texas State University, she decided that “Cathy” fit better. In 1974 she met Ric Dexter and they were married on March 21, 1976. They moved around a bit, living in Memphis, San Antonio but decided that the Dallas area was their home.
In 1982, their family doubled in size when Matthew was born, and Jill, already 7 years old, was adopted. In 1986 Patrick was born. As if she wasn’t busy enough supporting Jill’s basketball, baseball and volleyball activities, Mathew’s painting and guitar endeavors, and Patrick’s scouting and baseball teams, while working full time at the Dallas Morning News, she determined to go back to school and graduated with a BS from Amber University in 1992.
Tragedy struck in 2009-2010 when within 9 months her brother Dick passed on, followed by her son Matthew, and then her mother Ardell.
Cathy retired in 2014 and enjoyed her grandchildren Jameson, Liam, and Charlotte. More happiness came in 2021 when Jill and Beth were married.
Having been diagnosed in 2022 with Interstitial Lung Disease, Cathy began the fight for her life. On March 6, 2025, surrounded by, and feeling, the love of her family and friends, Cathy finished this part of her journey.
