Cedrick accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Blair. In 1968, his family united with The True Believers Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jessie Peterson. Later, in 1975, Reverend Jessie Peterson founded Peterson Memorial Baptist Church, where Cedrick faithfully served on the junior usher board and sang in the junior choir throughout his youth. Cedrick received his education through the Dallas Independent School District and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School (SOC), home of the Golden Bears, in 1977. Following graduation, Cedrick enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country from 1977 to 1983 in the 2nd Armor Division, known as “Hell on Wheels.” His military travels included Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Germany; and Fort Hood, Texas.
