Charles Connell Blaylock, born December 9, 1935, passed away peacefully into God’s embrace at home the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Mr. Blaylock is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Betty Sue Lively Blaylock; son Charles C. Blaylock Jr. and wife Lynda; son Richard Keathley Blaylock and wife Barbara; daughter Suzanne Blaylock and husband Michael Wyneken, as well as 9 grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Charles follows in death his sister, Betty Blaylock McNalley, and precedes in death his brother Lloyd D. Blaylock and wife, Tiny, as well as sister-in-law Shirley L. Smith. Born in Dallas, raised in both Highland Park and Irving, Charles C. Blaylock first attended Highland Park High School then graduated from Irving High School in 1954. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1958 from Southern Methodist University, where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.Blaylock began his career in Real Estate Development and Investments in the 1960’s with apartment complexes, office warehouse parks, residential housing, and nursing care facilities, known as Heritage Manor. It was a life-long commitment to serving the needs of the aging citizens of his community that led Charles C. Blaylock to pioneer in the early 1980’s the concept of independent congregate senior housing and to introduce 12 Oaks Retirement Villages. The first community was built in Irving and the second, in east Dallas. Both villages expanded to provide Assisted Living care, and 12 Oaks ultimately branched out into offering management expertise to other Senior Care facilities throughout Texas, as well. When Blaylock retired in 1998, he devoted his time to golf, volunteer and church activities, and of course, his pride and joy, his family, which will miss his big, beaming smile. An avid golfer, Charles thoroughly enjoyed all the fun-filled matches and tournaments with his Royal Oaks Country Club buddies, where he served on the Board of Directors. His crowning achievement was a spectacular hole-in-one at the Escondido Country Club in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. A keenly devoted member of Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, he served the Board in several different ways, such as Administrative Board Chair, Treasurer, and Finance Committee Chair. Charles also sang in the choir, and participated in the Walk to Emmaus. Active in the philanthropic and civic communities, Blaylock was honored to serve on the Board of Directors CC Young and to sit on the Park South YMCA Chairman’s Round Table. For his tireless efforts, Charles C. Blaylock received the CC Young Mind, Body, Spirit Award for Fighting Neurodegenerative Diseases in 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 28, at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, 6315 Walnut Hill Lane, 75230, two blocks east of Preston Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Charles C. Blaylock Memorial Fund at CC Young, 4847 W. Lawther Drive in Dallas, Texas 75214.
