

Charles Harry Lodowski, M.D. died May 8, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas. Born December 1, 1918, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Charles and Charlotte Lodowski. The oldest of five children, Charles worked in his family's grocery store while attending school and playing in the school band. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University, a Master of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. After serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Lodowski established a private practice in Pediatrics in Dallas. After many successful years, he developed an interest in public health and administrative medicine and earned a Master of Public Health degree at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He then served as Assistant Professor at The University of Virginia Medical School and as Medical Director of the Comprehensive Health Service Center for Children and Youth in Charlottesville, Virginia. Charles was Medical Director for Republic National Life Insurance Company in Dallas until retirement and served as president of the Society of Life Insurance Medical Directors of Texas. He and his wife enjoyed Elder Hostel trips, cruises, playing bridge and the violin. He loved family, friends and service to others. He was active in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at his church and served as a lay Eucharistic minister for the homebound. He took great delight in meeting former patients when he encountered them as adults. Always interested in learning, after retirement, he completed numerous community college courses in subjects ranging from astronomy to religion. As his vision began to fail, he continued to pursue knowledge using audio materials. He is dearly loved and admired and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Florence Zelnik and Blanche Mattioli, and his brothers Harry James Lodowski and Robert Norman Lodowski. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Genevieve; son Charles Alan Lodowski and his wife Patricia; son Robert Lodowski and his wife Mimi; son John Lodowski and his wife Rose; daughter Ruth Lodowski; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Recitation of the Holy Rosary and visitation will be Friday May 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Stephen W. Bierschenk at 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 12, 2012 at North Chapel of Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX. Entombment will follow at Calvary Hill Mausoleum.
