

Christina was born on September 3rd, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was the youngest of her beloved sisters and brothers. After transitioning into adulthood and completing her education, Christina quickly took on employment through Beneficial Bank for over thirty years, where she received many awards and accolades. An avid bowler, she was a member of several leagues over the decades, acquiring many trophies. In addition to her career, Christina also took care of her disabled sister, Rosario. In 1988 she met Fredrick Smeltzer, whom she married. They soon moved to Dallas and remained married for twelve years, enjoying traveling and trips in their RV, until his untimely death in 2000.
Through her husband, who was veteran of the Vietnam War, Christina remained a proud lifelong member with Veterans of Foreign Wars. A breast cancer survivor herself in the early 2010’s, she enjoyed her retirement and her love of coffee, bingo, sudoku and vintage movies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Manuel and Julia Lopez, brothers Arturo and Samuel Lopez, and sisters Rosario and Tomasita Lopez. Christina had no children, but is survived by her sisters, Elida Salinas (husband Eliazar, deceased) and Elisa Mariscal (husband Carlos), as well has her beloved nieces Melissa Morning and Leticia Kane, nephew Marco Salinas, and long-time friends Linda and Abdon Gonzalez. She was a fighter and a true force of nature, and she will be deeply missed.
A private family funeral service will be held for Christina L Smeltzer, and any memorial contributions may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation in her name. Floral arrangements may be sent to Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
