Christine “Chris” Brooks passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 in the early morning at 67 years old. Chris was born at Harris Hospital in Ft. Worth, TX to Sharon and Henry Keller Jr. on February 21, 1959. In 1970, after the passing of her father, she moved to Highland Park, TX. While growing up, she spent wonderful summers attending Camp Longhorn making lifelong friends and memories. In 1977, after graduating from Highland Park High School, she entered college at the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Chris transferred back to Dallas and in 1981, where she completed her studies at Southern Methodist University, with a BS in Political Science. After SMU, she furthered her studies by attending Paralegal School in Atlanta, GA and began her professional career with Touchstone Bernays law firm in Dallas.
In the fall of 1982, Chris met her future husband, Gary Brooks, on a blind date to the Texas/OU Football game. After several years of dating, they were married at the Church of the Incarnation by Father CV Westapher on July 20, 1985. Gary’s career took them to New Orleans & S. Louisiana, where they spent seven years enjoying the city’s food, culture and people. While in New Orleans, she gave birth to her two children, Katherine “Katie” Brooks in 1987 and Robert Brooks in 1989. Being a mom brought so much joy to her life. In 1992, the family moved back to Highland Park where they made their home for the next 34 years.
Chris will be remembered for her kind, generous, and loving spirit. Always the first to write her thank you notes. She taught Sunday School for her kids and nephews through their confirmations. She also enjoyed spending weekends at her family’s lake house teaching numerous kids to water ski. Chris enjoyed weekend parties with family and friends over the years and always loved a good crawfish boil. She was such a special person to so many and her deadpan humor will be deeply missed.
Chris is survived by her husband of 40 years, Gary, her daughter Katie (Tracy), son Robert, brother and sister-in-law Chuck and Teri Keller and their son Clint (Natalie). Chris was preceded in death by her father Henry, her mother and stepfather Sharon and Robert Galer, and her nephew Hank Keller.
