Christopher "Chris" Shane Baker
July 1, 1972 – September 8, 2019
Christopher "Chris" Shane Baker was born on July 1, 1972 in Dallas, Texas. He passed peacefully at his home in Garland, Texas on September 8, 2019.
Diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 3, Chris struggled all his life, in and out of hospitals but he was able to graduate from South Garland High School and held several jobs in retail and customer service until his health became so bad he was put on dialysis for 7 years and then a kidney transplant in 2006. He loved outdoor activities, camping, fishing and role play games with his friends. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and always made a special effort to attend all the reunions he could.
Chris is preceded in death by his grandparents, Marie and Woody Baker, Rosa and C.J. Liebel, Jr. and Juanita and Claud Maxson; father, James P. Baker and brother, James Ray Baker.
Chris is survived by his parents, Linda and Philip L. Maxson of Garland, Texas; brothers, Charles (Chuck) Baker and Stephen Maxson of Garland, Texas; nieces, Kylie and Reagan Maxson of Normangee, Texas and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he held dear.
We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Esteem Hospice and American Best Care Hospice for their care and concern for Chris and for us, his parents, during the 22 months they cared for him. We wish to especially thank his attending nurse, Traci Cooper and aide, Brooklyn Tyler for their expertise and care.
