Christopher (Chris) Robert Kite-Powell, Captain, US Army (ret), of Garland, TX, passed away after an extended illness on September 20, 2026. He was a true American patriot, a highly decorated military veteran, and a man who dearly loved his family.
Chris graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, in 1964. Chris served with distinction and valor while stationed in Vietnam (1969-1970) during the war and was awarded the following honors and medals: Airborne Ranger, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and Bronze Star Medal.
His love of country and family were unalterably connected. He met his future wife, Suzanne (Suzi) nee Anderson, at a party at her parents' house on July 4th, 1963. Chris and Suzi were married on July 4th, 1964, and brought their daughter, Elisabeth (Lisa) into the world on July 4th, 1965. Their son, Martin, was born on September 29, 1971, after Chris returned home from Viet Nam.
His career plan was to be in the military until retirement. While on his tour of duty in Vietnam, Chris was offered the opportunity to work as an Assistant to the top Commander in the region. However, daughter Lisa was diagnosed with severe asthma, and acceptance would involve moving his family to an international base in the Eastern Theater. He chose to turn that down because he felt it was best for Lisa to remain stateside for medical care. Chris was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970.
Chris came to faith in the Lord at Water of Life Church in Plano, Texas. He was most recently a member of Lakepoint Church in Rowlet, Texas, where he served and was in a community group.
Chris loved sports. He became an avid volunteer soccer coach for ten years, working with his son and young boys in the same age group to both do well and enjoy the sport.
Following his military career, Chris moved into Information Technology, holding Director level positions and then moving into the consulting arena. His first consultant position brought the opportunity to work alongside Martin. This presented a means to team up again and take them from soccer to Information Technology. Chris went on to be engaged by Dunn and Bradstreet, retiring from there with much success.
Chris will be laid to rest with honors at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in a private service. He is survived by his son, Martin T. Kite-Powell of Garland, TX, and was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne, daughter Elisabeth (Lisa), parents Stephen and Elaine Kite-Powell, and sister Pamela Kite-Powell. He leaves behind his brother, Stephen M. and wife, Maudie of Memphis, TN; sister, Linley Hannabas and husband Don of Lufkin, TX; and brother Kevin and wife Dorothy of Fairview, TX, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
