

Concepcion Tijerina Hernandez, 90, was born in Rosebud, Texas on May 25, 1925. She passed away quietly on February 21, 2016 and is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Ernest G. Hernandez, her mother, Matilde Tijerina and father Jose Tijerina, two sisters, Fela Garcia and Ersilia Moreno and three brothers, Alfonso Tijerina, Paul Tijerina and Jesse Arias. She will be greatly missed by her son Ernesto and his wife Denise, and her three daughters Delva, Silvia, and Irma. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren - Eva Lopez, Danielle Hernandez, Lindsey Hernandez, Ian Hernandez, Kayley Hernandez, Samantha Hernandez, Yesenia Horton, Yesika Horton, James Horton and wife Jade Horton, Mark Marquez, Andriana Marquez. In addition, she was also blessed by seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lopez, Madalaine Lopez, Graciella Marquez, Elijah Marquez, Caleb Marquez, Levi Marquez and Joshua Quintero. She is also survived by one sister Adela Luna, one brother, Samuel Arias, and many nieces and nephews. She married Ernest G. Hernandez on June 26, 1949, at the Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in Dallas, Texas. They moved to San Antonio for several years and then returned to Dallas to work and raise their children. She was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana until her death. She loved growing flowers, especially roses, and working in her garden. She adored and doted on her grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for her two collie dogs, Honey Boy and Chonita. She worked hard all her life to help support her family. As a very young child she would go up north to pick cotton with her family; she also worked cleaning homes and ironing for others. As an adult, she was employed as a seamstress with the Davies Manufacturing Co. and as a jewelry manager at Herbert Steinberg Co., both in Dallas, Texas. She will be dearly missed by her family and everyone who cared for her during the years she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
