

BOURY, Costandi Nicolas, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Born on August 19, 1930 in Jaffa Palestine, he was the first of nine children of Nicola and Orania Boury. Costa grew up in Jerusalem and attended the Bishop Gobat School, graduating in July 1947. Following his graduation, at the age of 17, he came to the United States to attend University. Costa received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in June 1951. During his time at UT, Costa was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, honorary engineering fraternities. In February of 1951, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers awarded Costa the Hugh Scott Cameron Award. He was singled out of his class as the sole recipient. Costa was chosen to receive this honor for his superior personal characteristics and scholarly achievements. The award was meant to encourage him to pursue advanced study and help him realize his potential as an intellectual leader. He was also a member of the Canterbury Club, an Episcopalian Association. He was commissioned Honorary Texas Citizen by the State of Texas on May 30, 1951. “Chico”, as Costa was referred to at UT, took the big university in his stride; his scholastic achievements and his character won him the admiration and friendship of a large number of students. After graduation, he moved to Dallas and joined The Atlantic Refining Company, working as mechanical engineer in exploration. Costa married Sylvie Fallaha on November 6, 1955 in Beirut, Lebanon. He joined The Mobil Oil Corporation in Beirut, Lebanon in 1955. In 1968, Costa and his family moved to London where he joined Mobil Oil Europe, as operations manager. In 1980, The Mobil Oil Corporation transferred Costa to Saudi Arabia, where he was responsible for the construction of a joint venture between Mobil Oil and The Kingdom, building its first petro chemical plant. After his tenure with Mobil Saudi Arabia, he moved back to the US in1980 to work in family business. He and his wife retired in Dallas where he first started. He is survived by his wife Sylvie Fallaha, his daughter Orania Abdo and her husband Abraham Abdo, son Nicolas Boury and his wife Edy, son Fadi Boury, and son Hani Boury and his wife Jihane, as well as his six grandchildren and his two great grand children. A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in the Chapel at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home 7505 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas, with a reception to follow.
