Curlie Mae Jenkins- Turner Leftwich was born November 2, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Virgie and Annie Jenkins. She united with Shady Grove Christian Church at an early age and became a member of the Church of Christ where she was a faithful member until her death.
She graduated from Carver High School in Omaha-Naples and entered Jarvis Christian College earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. She did postgraduate work at Texas A&M University, College station, Texas. While matriculating at Jarvis Christian college, she pledged and was initiated into Alpha kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, where she did outstanding community service work.
She was loving, caring, and a woman of quiet strength who sparked volumes. She was passionate about education and her greatest joy was teaching young children. She retired from education after a Thirty-eight year career.
Curlie was united in holy matrimony to Raymond Turner Junior and to this union three daughters were born. After his death, she married Ben Leftwich.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents: Virgie and Annie Jenkins, First husband, as well as, her second husband, two daughters, and seven siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory: One daughter, Priscilla Turner Watkins, Ph.D., Dallas, Texas, one brother: Franklin Jenkins (Connie) Pittsburg, Texas, Four grandchildren; Veronica Robinson-Scott, Lancaster, Texas, Robert L. Watkins III, M.D. Heathrow, Florida: Damon Abdul Hall Duncanville, Texas: Adora Ashley Hall, Longview, Texas, and a plethora of Great and Great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
