

Curtis Ray Corbray, Sr., obedient man of God, a proud veteran, devoted husband, beloved father, and cherished brother, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will never be forgotten. Born on March 3, 1947 in Denison, Texas, Curtis was the son of the late Morris (M.C.) Corbray Sr. and Louise Wright-Corbray-Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents and three dear siblings Karl Corbray Sr., Alicia Corbray Anderson, and Morris Corbray Jr. Curtis was a man of quiet strength, great wisdom, and deep compassion. He had a love for sports that never waned and an even greater love for his family. His heart was as vast as his life’s journey; always open to others, always ready to help.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Robbie Smith Corbray of 25 years, and his loving children: Marcella Hall of Austin, TX; Jonathan Nelson of Las Vegas, NV; Curtis Ray Corbray Jr. of Princeton, TX; and Patrick Schucke of Fulda, Germany. He was also a proud stepfather in love to Ebonee Gee of Marion, IN, and a guiding light to five special children whom he and Robbie helped grow together: Gina Jimenez, Jessica Long, LeNeasha Grace, Malika Corbray, and Giovanni Ray Corbray Jorden. Curtis leaves behind a strong and loving legacy through his 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by 13 beloved siblings: Jerlean Lindsey of Everett, WA; Donald Corbray of Yakima, WA; Gerald Corbray (Theresa) of Yakima, WA; Marcia Corbray Ford of Tacoma, WA; Linda Black (Joseph) of Auburn, WA; Roy Corbray (Naomi) of Yakima, WA; Cynthia Corbray of Federal Way, WA; Rhonda Williams of Yakima, WA; Gary Corbray Sr. of Shelton, WA; Angela Sykes of Tukwila, WA; Jeanette Tuggle (Dwight) of Jonesboro, GA; Norman Corbray of Columbus, GA and Regina Jones (Leo) of Bonham, TX. Curtis also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by his kindness, stories, and unwavering support.
Curtis accepted Christ and joined Hopewell Baptist Church at an early age under the ministry of Revend Turner, laying the foundation for a life rooted in faith. Curtis graduated from Terrell High School in 1965 in Denison, TX; where he was a standout athlete who played football, baseball, and ran track. Curtis then attended Grayson County Jr College. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1966. He served his country with honor and distinction in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. While serving in Germany, Curtis played the saxophone and even formed a band name The Sound Trek R&B Band, sharing his love for music with others. After 25 years of service; Curtis retired from military service. He went on to work for the United States Post Office for 5 years. Curtis continued his journey of learning, earning two master’s degrees and receiving an honorary doctoral degree, a reflection of his dedication to education and personal growth. Curtis was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, TX under the leadership of Rev. James P. Thompson, Jr.
Curtis Ray Corbray, Sr. was a man of deep honor, a soldier, a scholar, a mentor, and a man of faith. His impact was wide, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His journey on Earth has ended, but the light of his legacy will shine on forever.
A visitation for Curtis will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232. A celebration of life will occur Monday, July 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 301 W Sanford St, Arlington, TX 76011. A committal service will occur Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
