Curtis met and married Mary Hurst Henigan, and from that union, they welcomed Curtis Jr., Sherriel, and Charles. He later adopted Demetrius Henigan and raised her as his own.
In 1976, Curtis and Zanona Frances Forbes (and Lurnell!) became one, sharing 47 years of marriage and ministry together. Curtis was installed as a Deacon, as he and Frances served for many years at New Jerusalem Institutional Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, and finally at Ewing Avenue Baptist Church. Having servants’ hearts, Curtis and Frances continued to serve whenever and wherever they were needed.
Curtis started working at the early age of 13, and eventually joined the United States Army. Subsequently, he worked for Southwestern Bell, retiring after 40 years. Upon retirement, Curtis worked for the Dallas Market Center for several years and became an entrepreneur, successfully sustaining businesses of his own.
In his “spare time,” Curtis could be heard on the airways of the Citizens Band radio (“CB”), helping truck drivers on the highways. Another very important part of Curtis’s life was bowling. Both he and Frances were members of several bowling leagues, where they traveled from New York to California and successfully competed, winning countless trophies and awards over several years.
As life progressed, Curtis retired, hung up his CB and won his last trophy to spend even more time with “Baby.” As time progressed, he continued to press into his committed role of husband and caregiver to Frances with her progressive health concerns. In recent months, as Curtis’s health declined, he continued to protect and care for her until the Lord called him home.
Together, Curtis and Frances share their children, Curtis Henigan, Jr. (Dallas, Tx.), Sherriel Curtis (James; Corpus Christi, Tx.), Charles Henigan (Dallas, Tx.), Lurnell Abraham (Brian; Fort Worth, Tx.), and Demetrius Evans (who pre-deceased him) (Wylie; Dallas, Tx.).
Curtis is survived by his sister, Sue Johnson (Houston, Tx), three sisters-in-law: Vernell Wiltz (Special Friend, Robert Simmons), Andrea McCollum, and Effie Dykes (Jimmie), all of Houston, Texas.
His grandchildren include: R’Chelle Miles (Galon; Dallas, Tx.), Robert Andrews (Houston, Tx.), Courtney West (Dallas, Tx.), Braeden Abraham, and Brielle Abraham, of Fort Worth, Tx. Great-grandchildren include: Jordan, Jaszmyne, Kierstyn, Leah, and Julius. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Danielle Martin (Trent), Shawn Caselberry (La-Sean), Patrick Wiltz, Sirell McCollum (Erica), Dion Dykes (Tina), and Tamella McCollum (Special Friend, Desmond Jackson), and several great nieces and nephews.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Henigan and Rosie Ann Minitt Thompson, step-father, William Thompson, siblings, Partenia Thompson (Dallas, Tx.), Floyd Thompson (Dallas, Tx.), Mary Bush (Houston, Tx.), Alzadie Porter (Dallas, Tx.), Joe Thompson (Houston, Tx.), and two brothers-in-law, Thomas McCollum and Richard Wiltz.
