Cynthia "Cindy" Casey Brown

Cynthia “Cindy” Casey Brown passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026 surrounded by her loving family following an almost three-year battle with breast cancer. She approached cancer the same way she approached life, with a positive attitude, graciousness and tenacity we were blessed to witness and encourage everyone to emulate.

Cindy was born at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas on June 26th, 1975 to Linda and Franklin Casey. She grew up in a loving and noisy household with her parents, three sisters and many dogs and cats. There were frequently extra friends at breakfast, boarder buddies from Hockaday visiting on the weekends and the occasional exchange student. She was raised with a focus on caring for others and an emphasis on the importance of education, principles that would continue to guide her throughout her life.

Cindy was a “lifer” at The Hockaday School in Dallas. Early on she demonstrated her lifelong propensity for kindness and positive energy, always encouraging everyone around her. She demonstrated her toughness, grit and determination on the athletic fields at Hockaday, many will remember her as the tiny girl carrying her asthma inhaler down the soccer field. She always included the newcomer and the quiet girl, gathering fiercely loyal friends at every stage of her life. Cindy immediately developed deep and long-lasting friendships. She made everyone feel as though she was their best friend. This continued as she attended Southern Methodist University, joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and the SMU Dedman School of Law.

Cindy was always a connector of friends and without surprise she met the love of her life, Ed Brown, at a mutual friend’s wedding in February 2002. They married in 2006, growing their family with the births of their sons. Frank and George were the light of her life.

Cindy spent the first 10 years of her law career in litigation when the opportunity arose to teach a class at El Centro College. She found her calling teaching government. She was a passionate and energetic teacher who was adored by her students. She was a devoted supporter of the St. Mark’s School of Texas where she served many roles including President of the Parent’s Association and Trustee.

Cindy cared deeply for others and brought boundless energy and warmth to everything she touched. She had a gift for making difficult challenges look effortless and for making every person around her feel valued and loved. She will be missed dearly.

Cindy was predeceased by her mother Linda Casey, mother-in-law Ellen Miller and sister Mary Newton.

Cindy is survived by her father Dr. Franklin Casey, sisters Dr. Donna Casey (Dr. Gary Weinstein) and Dr. Lisa Casey (Dr. Brad Raper), her husband Edgar Brown, sons Frank and George, in-laws Margie and Bart Brown, brother-in-law Bart Brown (Katie), sister-in-law Beth Bankhead and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas (9200 Inwood Road) at 3pm on Wednesday August 19th with reception to follow at Brook Hollow Golf Club (8301 Harry Hines Boulevard).

Cindy loved her pearls and her colorful silk scarves. At this celebration of her life please wear your pearls and embrace color.

Our family is thankful for the surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, internal medicine and ICU physicians, nurses and staff at Presbyterian Hospital for all of their care and support. We are especially grateful for Peggy Miller and Margaret Oginga for their love and support.

On average 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer. Cindy’s breast cancer was found on her routine screening mammogram 12 months after a normal mammogram. Please educate yourself and keep your recommended screening exams up to date.
